Educators recognized for service to diocese

RICE LAKE --At the Fall Institute for teachers and catechists on Oct. 9, four educators were honored for their outstanding service in the diocese.
The Bishop George A. Hammes Award is presented to persons who make special contributions to the vitality and growth of Catholic schools. This year the award was given to Fr. James J. Jackson, pastor at St. Anthony du Padua, River Falls; Immaculate Conception, Butternut, and St. Francis of Assisi, Fifield. Jackson has been working with Catholic schools for nearly 30 years. With the Knights of Columbus, he has developed a program called Project Youth, aimed at meeting the needs of Catholic schools, both in the diocese and throughout the state.
Kathy Drinkwine received the Father Harold Dodge Award for her excellence in catechetical ministry. Drinkwine works as the CRE at Holy Assumption Parish in Superior and is noted for her ability share her faith with others and make it exciting for the children and youth in her parish.
The Gloria Lang Award for Outstanding Support in Ministry was given to Ann Eitrem, who has volunteered as a catechist at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Park Falls, for over 10 years. Eitrem works with students of all ages and has also developed a preschool catechesis program that she directs and teaches.
Sr. Marianna Ableidinger, FSPA, received the Thomas P. Toohey Award for her leadership in catechetical ministry. Ableidinger has been active in catechetical leadership for over 19 years and is currently the DRE at St. Anthony Parish, Lac du Flambeau. She is noted for her use of Native American customs and spirituality and her great commitment to parish and community. She models for others how to live as Christian.
