SUPERIOR -- During a party at the chancery office Oct. 25, Bishop Raphael M. Fliss poses with a cake on his 75th birthday. At age 75, canon law requires all bishops to turn in their resignations. Fliss' resignation will not take effect until it has been accepted by Pope Benedict the XVI, and a new bishop selected. The timing of the acceptance is not known, since it is up to the discretion of the pope.
