Deacon McConnell on youths and reconciliation
Is the sacrament of reconciliation difficult for young people too?

Deacon McConnell said, “I think that if it's provided in the right context, young people flock to it. Society longs to have a concrete encounter with the Lord. Love is so fleeting and so erratic. Our society is so unstable.”

He mentioned how many people, young ones included, develop deep mistrust.

“It's hard for our world to trust. Trust is not something that is very commonly given,” he said.

He also said among young people, many don't see the need for formality and structure in the realm of faith.

“But it's changing. There's a longing for that real concrete reality. I think that especially right now, in our church, we can provide the kids with an opportunity, and not a forced reality, but strictly an opportunity ... to enter into a conversation about how the Lord wants to forgive and heal them,” Deacon McConnell said.
