Two men to join permanent diaconate this year

David B. DiSera, Hayward, and Robert Schienebeck, Butternut, will be ordained to the permanent diaconate Aug. 8 at Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior. Read on to learn more about these two men.

David B. DiSera was born June 11, 1961 in Chicago, Ill. He is the second of four children of Mr. and Mrs. Angelo DiSera. DiSera later married Donna Wielgot at St. Domitilla Church, in Hillside, Ill., January 22, 1983. The couple has four children, Ben, 20, Paige, 17, Eddie, 15, and Claire, 13.

Growing up, DiSera attended Divine Providence Catholic School in Westchester, Ill. He graduated from Proviso West High School, Hillside, Ill., in 1979 and earned an associate degree in aviation mainenance management from Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. in1982.

DiSera and his family lived in Atlanta, Ga. and Danville, Indiana while working with Delta before moving to Hayward in 1995. After spending 23 years in aviation mainenance with Delta and Northwest Airlines, DiSera began work with the Hayward schools. He also has spent time working for a family owned construction business as well as for Northwest Airlines in Duluth, Minn.,
Currently, DiSera is employed at the Hayward Community School District as the director of buildigns and grounds. In the district he helps coach shot put and discus at the high school.

When not working or preparing for the diaconate, DiSera enjoys hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends. Has been involved with the religious education program at St. Joseph Church for over 13 years.


Robert Schienebeck was born June 28, 1946 in Butternut to Mr. And Mrs. Celester Schienebeck. He attended school in Butternut and after high school moved to Minneapolis, Minn. He later moved back to the Butternut area. He retired in 2008 from Flambeau River Paper where he held the position of Mechanical Maintenance Manager.

He was married on October 29, 1966 to the former Angela Jirschele. They reside in rural Butternut and are members of Immaculate Conception parish, which is included in the northwoods cluster of St. Anthony in Park Falls, and St. Francis in Fifield. They have five children, Christopher (Lisa) Schienebeck, Cassandra Schienebeck, Catina (Jeff) Schienebeck-Oswald, Cameron Schienebeck and Clarissa Schienebeck and nine grandchildren.

Although retired Schienebeck is still active as Town Clerk for the Town of Chippewa and is vice president of the Flambeau Hospital board of directors. His wife, Angie, is a seamstress and is involved in a number of the ministries at Immaculate Conception.

Schienebeck’s diaconate ministry will be predominantly service to the elderly. He currently is a hospice volunteer and does Communion services at the nursing home, at Immaculate Conception and communion calls to the shut-ins. He also facilities the cluster RICA program and helps with marriage and baptism preparation.
